Established in 1930, the Commonwealth Games is one of the world’s largest and most celebrated multi-sport events, bringing together athletes from across the Commonwealth of Nations every four years.
This year, Devon was exceptionally well represented, with 25 athletes taking part in the Games who were either born in the County, currently live here, or train within Devon. Among these athletes, there were 5 medallists:
- Sam Tolchard, representing England, secured a gold medal in the Men’s Bowls Singles
- In cycling, Will Tidball was part of England’s successful Team Pursuit squad, helping the team to secure a gold medal
- Gymnast Abi Martin won two silver medals in the Floor and Vault events, alongside a bronze medal as part of the England Gymnastics Team
- Fellow gymnast Ruby Stacey also celebrated success as part of England’s bronze medal-winning Team Gymnastics performance
- Max Gregory, from Plymouth, won a silver medal in Judo for England
