On Saturday 4th April, the Bere Ferrers Community Shop & Café celebrated their 20th anniversary since winning the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2006.
The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service was created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of the late Queen’s Coronation. Since the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II, the award is now known as the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, and is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK. The award recognises outstanding work done in local communities, and is equivalent to an MBE for volunteer groups.
To celebrate this achievement, His Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, Nicola Gurr DL, attended their celebration and congratulated all the volunteers on the success of running this community asset. She also had the honour of cutting their celebratory cake.
