On Saturday 7th March, His Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, Alison Macmillan LVO DL, visited the Rapid Relief Team at Rowcroft Hospice’s ‘The Big Tackle’ Sponsored Walk.
The Rapid Relief Team are a global volunteer organisation, established by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church in 2013. They provide humanitarian relief, in the form of catering services, for those involved in disaster and emergency situations, military/uniformed services exercises, and community disaster situations. They also provide food for the homeless in the UK and across the globe.
At the event, they provided food free for participants of Rowcroft’s ‘The Big Tackle’ sponsored walk.
£150,000 was raised in total, with 1500 people walking the eight-mile route. These funds raised will provide a vital boost for local hospice care.
On behalf of HM The King, Alison MacMillan gave a short presentation at the event, saying:
“The Big Tackle perfectly highlights the incredible work of local charities like Rowcroft Hospice and the Rapid Relief Team (who are providing the BBQ at the event) and how they work in collaboration to support those in need in our community. I know from personal experience about the work of the hospice and the compassionate care that Rowcroft provides across South Devon. We’re really fortunate to have such a world class service in our community and we must do all we can to support it.”
