On Sunday, 18th February, the Lord Lieutenant of Devon attended the Exeter Lunar New Year Celebrations, which was held at Exeter Phoenix to mark 2024 being the year of the Dragon. The Dragon, also known as Loong, is the fifth of the 12-year cycle of animals that appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar. However, the Lunar New Year is celebrated by billions of people across the world in numerous cultures. The date of their celebrations vary, relating to the first new moon of their calendar.

In attendance was the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Kevin Mitchell, and Chair of Devon County Council, Councillor Percy Prowse. The evening consisted of performances, games, crafts and traditional Lunar snacks, all of which the Lord Lieutenant took part in and learnt about the traditions of the Lunar New Year.
