On Thursday, 21st September 2023, the Lord Lieutenant of Devon hosted a British Empire Medal Investiture at Royal Marines Stonehouse Barracks, Plymouth. This ceremony saw the presentation of both the British Empire Medal and The Queen’s Commendation for Bravery.
The British Empire Medal is awarded for a ‘hands-on’ service to the local community. This could be a long-term charitable or voluntary activity, or innovative work of a relatively short duration that has made a significant difference.
The Queen’s Commendation for Bravery acknowledges brave acts by both civilians and members of the armed services in both war and peace, for gallantry not in the presence of an enemy.
