It is with very great sadness that we have heard of the death of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

It was in Devon as a young naval officer, training at Britannia Royal Naval College, that Prince Philip met and later married Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Not surprisingly therefore the County has been important to them both throughout their lives and they have visited us here many times.

We give thanks for a wonderful life. May he rest in peace.

A Jubilee Wood to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be planted in East Devon.  A three hectare site (7.4 acres), alongside Harpford Wood near Newton Poppleford, will be planted with around 6000 Douglas Fir and Ash saplings by landowner Clinton Devon Estates.

Planting date to be confirmed.

Alongside the Clinton Devon Estates Jubilee Wood project, the Lord Clinton Charitable Trust will be donating £500 to each of the parish and town councils on its estates in East and North Devon to spend on local celebrations or projects to mark the Queen’s Jubilee.
