It is with very great sadness that we have heard of the death of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

It was in Devon as a young naval officer, training at Britannia Royal Naval College, that Prince Philip met and later married Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Not surprisingly therefore the County has been important to them both throughout their lives and they have visited us here many times.

We give thanks for a wonderful life. May he rest in peace.

Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration to recognise local achievements

All parish and town councils are being asked to let us know about projects in their community that they have helped to deliver. The awards:

Community Award – best achievement of a council in the last 4 years which has directly benefited the local community

Youth Award – an initiative that has directly benefited young people

Future Project Award – the most exciting plans already in the pipeline.

Awards (and £100 cheque) will be given to a parish council and a  town council in each of the three categories.  Submissions will be judged by an independent panel who will look for initiatives that are innovative, demonstrate partnership working/community involvement, achieve value for money and are of the greatest benefit to the community.  Closing date for submissions is 20 April 2012.

Presentations to the successful councils will be made at a Chairman’s celebratory event for parishes and towns at the Council Offices, Knowle, Sidmouth on Thursday 17 May 2012.  Please contact [email protected] for further details.
