It is with very great sadness that we have heard of the death of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

It was in Devon as a young naval officer, training at Britannia Royal Naval College, that Prince Philip met and later married Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Not surprisingly therefore the County has been important to them both throughout their lives and they have visited us here many times.

We give thanks for a wonderful life. May he rest in peace.

by | November 30th, 2011

HRH The Duke of Edinburgh visited Barnstaple on 17th November to take the salute at the homecoming parade of the men and women from Commando Logistic Regiment, Chivenor Barracks,  having returned from their six months in Afghanistan.  The troops were led through the streets by the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines.  The crowd was boosted by 1000 plus, families and friends, who travelled from all over the UK.  On return to the Barracks the Duke of Edinburgh presented troops with various medals, including the Operational Service Medal.
